Redefining Shore Power

Mobile Shore Power meets Grid-Scale Energy Storage.
Flux Lines’ battery barges provide flexible shore power to ships in port and essential energy services to the local power grid. We accelerate maritime electrification without the multi-year wait or prohibitive cost of fixed infrastructure.

Why Floating Shore Power?

Reduced CAPEX

Fixed

Massive upfront investments that are difficult to earn back, particularly at berths with low utilization.

Floating

Significantly reduce the initial investment by deploying shore power only where and when it is required, instead of at every berth.

Faster Deployment

Fixed

3–5 year lead time for grid upgrades and civil works that interfere with terminal operations.

Floating

Standardized barge designs allow for fast deployment with zero impact on terminal and vessel operations.

Increased Grid Stability

Fixed

Direct-to-grid connections create massive load spikes, putting a strain on local energy networks and increasing peak-demand pricing.

Floating

By doubling as grid-connected BESS, our barges stabilize the local grid and tap into an additional revenue stream.

Future-Proof Flexibility

Fixed

Permanent installations cannot adapt to shifting port layouts or changing vessel requirements, leading to potential stranded assets.

Floating

A flexible solution that grows with port operations, and adjusts capacity as electrification needs evolve.

How it fits into your operations

1. Low-Utilization Terminals

A Complete Alternative to Fixed Infrastructure
For terminals that lack the critical mass of vessels needed to justify a multi-million dollar fixed installation, or those that are not prioritized for grid upgrades, Flux Lines offers a total replacement. We provide the same high-voltage connection without any land-side infrastructure, allowing for a truly zero-CAPEX shore power connection for the operator.

2. Container Hub Optimization

Reducing the Required Capacity of Fixed Installations
Large container terminals often face a peak demand problem where fixed infrastructure is only fully utilized at the busiest time of the year. Flux Lines allows terminals to size their fixed installations for 70-80% of their berth capacity, while our barges power the vessels that can’t be handled by the fixed installations during busy periods. This significantly lowers the investment required for each terminal while guaranteeing shore power availability for every ship.

3. Cruise-to-Cargo

Maximizing Infrastructure by Moving Power Between Terminals
Cruise terminals often have high-capacity electrical connections that sit idle overnight while ships are at sea. Flux Lines utilizes this existing, underutilized capacity to charge its barges during off-peak hours when electricity is cheapest and most abundant. This energy is then used to power ships at cargo terminals during the day, effectively using a single fixed connection as the hub to provide shore power across the entire port.

4. All of the Above

A Flexible Combination of All Use Cases
Most ports don’t fit into a single category but are a mix of different operations. Because our barge designs are standardized and versatile, the same asset can provide a peak-shaving service to a major container terminal one day and support a multipurpose berth the next, charging either at a dedicated energy hub or a cruise terminal, adapting to the operational needs of the port.
